MIAMI ART WEEK 2026: WHAT TO KNOW

East of Collins Expediting  ·  November 2026

Miami Art Week 2026  ·  Art Basel Miami Beach  ·  Special Event Permitting

The Week Miami Becomes One Giant Event Site

Art Basel Miami Beach may be the headline, but Miami Art Week extends far beyond the Convention Center. For one week, beaches, hotels, garages, parks, galleries, warehouses and entire neighborhoods become part of the experience.

Miami Art Week 2026 At a Glance

Miami Art Week: November 30–December 6, 2026 Art Basel Miami Beach: December 4–6, 2026 Art Basel Preview Days: December 2–3, 2026 Primary Areas: Miami Beach, Wynwood, Downtown Miami, Design District and Virginia Key

Every December, people arrive in Miami looking for Art Basel.

What they actually experience is something much bigger.

Art fairs take over enormous tents on the beach. Hotels become exhibition spaces. Luxury brands build temporary activations. Artists install work directly on the sand. Garages turn into venues. Streets, sidewalks and loading zones become part of production plans.

And all of it happens within an unusually compressed window.

For visitors, Miami Art Week is about deciding what to see.

For our Special Events team, it is about everything that has to happen before those doors ever open.

First: Art Basel Miami Beach and Miami Art Week Are Not the Same Thing

The distinction gets blurred every December.

Art Basel Miami Beach is the international art fair taking place at the Miami Beach Convention Center from December 4 through December 6, with preview programming beginning December 2.

Miami Art Week is the much larger ecosystem that forms around it.

That includes independent art fairs, museum programming, public installations, concerts, fashion events, brand activations, hospitality programming and private events stretching from the beaches to Wynwood, Downtown Miami, the Design District and Virginia Key.

If someone tells you they are “going to Basel,” there is a very good chance they are actually spending most of the week outside Art Basel itself.

What East of Collins Is Working on for Miami Art Week 2026

This season, East of Collins’ Special Events team is supporting permitting and municipal coordination across a portfolio that reflects exactly how varied Miami Art Week has become.

Miami Beach · Public Installation

Poor Teddy in Memoriam · The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach

Rachel Lee Hovnanian’s monumental Poor Teddy in Memoriam will form part of The Perfect Trade-Off, with work presented throughout The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach and its beachfront. The public exhibition runs December 1–8.

Miami Beach · Free & Public

Faena Art Week

Faena Miami Beach becomes one of Art Week’s major public destinations from December 1–6, with large-scale installations and programming extending across Faena Beach and the Faena District. The public installations are free to visit.

Miami Beach · Ticketed Art Fair

Untitled Art, Miami Beach

One of Miami Art Week’s signature beachfront fairs returns to the sand at Ocean Drive and 12th Street. Untitled Art runs December 2–6 following its VIP and press preview on December 1.

Miami Beach · Wellness + Visual Installation

1 Hotel South Beach × Alo

At 1 Hotel South Beach, EOC is supporting an Art Week project that pairs wellness-driven programming with a public-facing projection-mapping installation on the beach—an example of how Art Week increasingly crosses art, hospitality, wellness and technology.

Miami Beach · Ticketed Beach Event

HUGEL on the Beach

HUGEL brings two Art Week events to the beach at 17th Street and Collins Avenue on December 3 and 4.

For this project, East of Collins is handling building and state permitting components rather than the primary special event permit—a useful reminder that one event can contain several independent permit tracks.

Miami Beach · Brand Activation

LEGO · 1111 Lincoln Road

EOC’s Art Week permitting calendar also includes a LEGO activation at the iconic 1111 Lincoln Road garage. Additional public programming information is still developing.

City of Miami · Ticketed Art Fair

NADA Miami · Ice Palace Studios

NADA Miami returns to Ice Palace Studios from December 1–5, bringing galleries and independent contemporary art programming to the mainland.

Miami · Art Week Event

MOG · Miami of Graffiti Art Week

Another project on EOC’s current schedule is MOG’s Miami Art Week programming, planned for December 2–4 with live art and entertainment elements.

Virginia Key · Ticketed Festival

Experience Incendia: The Art of Fire

On Virginia Key, Experience Incendia brings its combination of large-scale fire art, immersive environments and electronic music to Historic Virginia Key Beach Park during Art Week.

If You’re Spending Art Week in Miami Beach, Geography Matters

Miami Beach packs an extraordinary amount of Art Week programming into a relatively narrow stretch of the island.

Art Basel centers around the Convention Center at 19th Street.

Untitled sits directly on the beach around 12th Street.

HUGEL’s Art Week beach events are near 17th Street.

1 Hotel sits around 24th Street.

Faena’s public Art Week installations anchor the area around 32nd Street.

On a normal week, those distances seem small.

During Miami Art Week, they should be treated like an itinerary.

Miami Art Week Does Not Stop at the Causeway

Some of the week’s most important fairs and activations are on the mainland.

NADA operates from Ice Palace Studios near Downtown Miami.

Wynwood fills with galleries, murals, workshops, fashion activations and brand events.

Virginia Key becomes its own destination for large-scale outdoor experiences such as Incendia.

Trying to move back and forth across the bay repeatedly in one day is one of the easiest ways to spend more of Art Week in traffic than in art.

The Advice Suzette Gives People Every Art Week: Plan for the Traffic

If Google Maps says the trip looks easy, give yourself more time anyway.

Miami Beach is already constrained geographically. During Art Week, thousands of visitors, production vehicles, rideshares, hotel activity and simultaneous events all concentrate on the same corridors.

1. Build Your Day by Neighborhood

If you’re doing Miami Beach, stack Miami Beach stops together. If you’re going to Wynwood or NADA, consider making the mainland its own block rather than crossing the causeway repeatedly.

2. Walking Shoes Beat the Art Week Fantasy

A single art fair can mean walking several long aisles before you ever move to the next venue. Untitled, the Convention Center, beachfront installations and hotel activations can turn one day into miles of walking. Dress accordingly.

3. Don’t Assume You’ll Park at Every Stop

Parking becomes highly competitive around major fairs and event zones. If your itinerary is concentrated on Miami Beach, one practical approach is to park once and move through the island another way.

4. Consider Starting Farther North

One of Suzette’s practical Art Week strategies is starting farther north around the 46th Street area, then moving south through Mid-Beach and South Beach rather than trying to drive directly into the densest event zone. Parking availability is never guaranteed, so check current conditions before heading out.

5. Use Miami Beach Mobility Options

Walking, the Miami Beach Trolley and bicycle options can be useful when traffic slows. If using e-bikes, scooters or other motorized micromobility devices, check Miami Beach’s current rules before riding—motorized devices are restricted from areas including the Beachwalk and city sidewalks.

6. Leave Space in the Schedule

The best Art Week itineraries are not necessarily the ones with the most stops. They’re the ones that acknowledge what Miami looks like when the entire city is trying to be somewhere at the same time.

What Visitors Don’t See: Every Activation Has Its Own Permit Architecture

To a guest, an Art Week activation might look like one event.

To the permitting team, it may be several projects moving at once.

Special event permit Temporary structure permit Building permit Electrical permit Generator approval Fire review State approval Beach or public-space approval Right-of-way coordination Maintenance of Traffic plan Police coordination Food or alcohol approvals Inspection scheduling Load-in and load-out coordination

Not every project needs every item on that list.

That is exactly the point.

A beachfront concert does not move through the same approval path as an art installation.

A four-day art fair inside an existing building does not move like a temporary event on Virginia Key.

And an event in the City of Miami cannot simply copy the permitting strategy that worked in Miami Beach.

During Art Week, the creative concept may travel from city to city. The permit strategy does not.

For Event Producers, Art Week Starts Months Before December

The public experiences Art Week in December.

The permitting team experiences it months earlier.

Sites have to be evaluated.

Plans have to be developed.

Departments need time to review.

Production scopes change.

New structures get added.

Traffic requirements emerge.

And the one thing that generally does not change is the event date.

The Art Week Rule

The closer you get to December, the fewer options the project has.

That is why East of Collins approaches Art Week permitting as a planning and risk-management function—not a last-minute administrative task.

The goal is simple: when guests arrive, the permitting work should be the part of the experience they never have to think about.

Miami Art Week 2026: Quick Questions

When is Art Basel Miami Beach 2026?

Art Basel Miami Beach’s public days are December 4–6, 2026 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Preview programming takes place December 2–3.

When is Miami Art Week 2026?

The broader Miami Art Week calendar runs approximately November 30 through December 6, with some exhibitions beginning earlier and continuing beyond the official week.

Are there free Art Week events in Miami Beach?

Yes. Public installations and hotel programming are part of the week alongside ticketed fairs. Faena’s major 2026 Art Week installations, for example, are free and open to the public.

What is the best way to get around Miami Beach during Art Week?

Plan by neighborhood and expect significant traffic. Walking, regular bicycles, Citi Bike and the Miami Beach Trolley can help reduce short car trips. Visitors using e-bikes or scooters should check current Miami Beach micromobility restrictions before riding.

Does East of Collins permit Art Week events?

Yes. East of Collins’ Special Events team supports Art Week projects across Miami Beach and the greater Miami area, coordinating applicable municipal permits, building and trade permits, public-space requirements, agency approvals, inspections and related event-permitting workstreams depending on the project.

The Best Art Week Events Feel Effortless. The Work Behind Them Isn’t.

When Miami Art Week works, visitors see art.

They see a sculpture rising out of the sand.

A fair tent filled with galleries.

A beachfront concert at sunset.

A hotel transformed into an installation.

They should not see the months of approvals, plans, revisions, inspections and coordination underneath it.

That’s the point of doing the work well.

Planning a Miami Art Week Activation?

The event date doesn’t move. Your permitting strategy needs to be built around it.
